Luxury Smart Home
Johannesburg · 42 Devices · Full Home Automation

The Challenge
A multi-level private residence with no unified smart system. Lighting, climate, security and entertainment ran on separate platforms with no central control.
The Environment
A two-storey home in Johannesburg with thick walls and no structured network backbone. Existing Wi-Fi couldn't reliably reach the garden level, and every system ran on its own app.
The Design
GTL designed a full-home automation backbone — a wired network spine feeding smart lighting, motorised blinds, climate zones and a home-wide security layer, all unified in one control app and voice system.
The Deployment
Installation ran over five days: structured cabling and a PoE switch stack, Zigbee and Wi-Fi lighting modules, smart locks and door sensors, a video intercom, and a rack-mount controller — each device commissioned and tested against the plan before handover.
Equipment Deployed
- Rack-mount controller
- PoE switch stack
- Zigbee + Wi-Fi lighting modules
- Smart locks & door sensors
- Video intercom
- Voice assistants
The Outcome
Single-app control of all 42 devices
Reduced standby power draw
Remote access and alerts from anywhere
Seamless integration with existing Wi-Fi
The Method
Every project runs through the same discipline: Understand → Design → Deploy → Support. This is how GTL works on every site.
